  1. I understand and agree with your observations about masks, COVID-19, and effective technical requirements for dealing with pathogenic materials. From this view, in the short term, the whole mask issue is only a small part of the challenges that we face. Simple cloth mask use alone can’t provide complete protection.

I respect your concerns about the negative impact that politics has on this situation. It sucks, but it’s the situation we’re in. Maintain your health, and work to help your family, closest friends, and co-workers through this mess.

The shutdown and stay at home orders have arguably done more economic damage in the the past 7 months than has SARS COVID-2. There will likely be economic effects that will continue to build through this fall and winter. Use your time well, prepare, and choose your path carefully.

  2. Some people tend to invite more trouble in their lives than they, or anyone else, needs at this time.
While I have concerns about over-reaction for a face mask “violation”, Marietta, Ohio Municipal Court records indicate a history of behavior that is, perhaps, a bit more troubled than most residents in the community.
Perhaps the following information will help others assess the incident from a broader perspective.

    1. A rational person would wear the mask to not star trouble. She was looking for it. Again.

      1. I agree that a rational person can contribute to the safety and resilience of a community. However, some people lack common sense, are often lightning rods for trouble.

In Southeastern Ohio the economy slowed down a bit this year. Many businesses directly affected with temporary closures used the time to modify their business strategy to survive for the long haul. In several cases they used the down time to successfully renovate facilities and upgrade business offerings to be able to support the community through what now appears to be a multi-year scenario.

The county sheriff announced in March that his department wouldn’t single out people for personal travel, or mask use during the “stay at home” orders, unless there was indication of other criminal activity. This reasonable approach has continued through the summer and into fall.

Masks are used in our area where businesses request them to protect their staff and the community. No shirt, no shoes, no mask…no service, is a small inconvenience.

Other than Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, a few senior care facilities, and a some notable private gatherings during this past summer, there haven’t been significant COVID-19 outbreaks.

Hopefully common sense will continue for the majority of the population. There unfortunately is small percentage of the community that caused a majority of trouble in the past, and continues to do so in the present. Recognize that as reality, and be prepared to respond in a reasonable manner in the future.

        1. That’s BS, man. She’s no saint but compared to all that she’s gotten in trouble for, how sever is not having a mask on, while outside. There aren’t any laws that say you have to wear a mask. Just because a politician says you have to wear it doesn’t mean you have to abide by it. Did we have to go through this when there was an Ebola outbreak a couple years back. There has to be a time when you have to start wondering what is really going on. All this started close to 2020 elections and is getting worse. These masks don’t keep keep the virus from being transmitted. You’re talking about micrometers in size for these viruses. CDC virologists that work around deadly viruses have to wear positive pressure hazmat suites to work in that environment but they want us to believe that a surgical mask is going to keep us safe. Take away the virologists suites and just give them surgical masks and say “we need to save money this this fiscal year” and see what happens. These surgical masks don’t prevent covid-19 from happening. This virus is politicized and the politicians are testing the waters on how much control they can instill on the public. The police don’t stop the rioters and looters but worry about a person not wearing a mask as a public hazard. I haven’t heard of a single raid on an antifa member or on the local offices but they’ll arrest someone for not wearing a mask. As of 10/10/20 there are 7,641,502 covid-19 cases in the US. There have been 213,037 total deaths as of 10/10/20. That’s a mortality (death) rate of 2.787894317112002%…. 3%! They want to shut the economy on 3%. I understood it happening in the begging since it was a new (novel) but now…. Hell no, there’s no excuse why it should be shut down. Here’s a link to the CDC confirming this. https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#cases_casesinlast7days.
I like stats. I’m also extremely sensitive to my surroundings do to what I’ve been through in my life. There is something going on behind closed doors with the democratic politicians . They support antifa, blm and other marxists or socialist groups and the AG’s and judges won’t prosecute these guys and just let them go. But anyway that’s just my opinion.

          1. Correction: viruses are measured in nanometres (nm).
